Two seminars on the theme of Education for Development, organized by FELCOS Umbria in the framework of the “DEAR Student” project, took place on Friday, February 19, and Saturday, February 20, in Terni and Perugia, respectively (Umbria Region, Italy).

The first appointment was the meeting “Work as the engine of human development: presentation of the UNPD 2015 Human Development Report” in the Terni Town Hall Council Chamber.

The meeting has been opened by Leopoldo Di Girolamo, Mayor of Terni, and Silvano Ricci, President of FELCOS Umbria and Councillor with responsibility for International Cooperation in Terni. The seminar continued with a representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) presenting the 2015 Human Development Report, an instrument for sharing studies and thematic analysis on the human dimensions of development at the global and local levels.

On Saturday, February 20, the Sant’Anna Hall in Perugia hosted the seminar “The Sustainable Development Goals of the 2015-2030 Agenda”. Diego Dramane Wagué, Councillor with responsibility for School and Policies for childhood and adolescence of Perugia, and Silvia Stancati, Vice President of FELCOS Umbria and Councillor with responsibility for International Cooperation of Foligno, opened the meeting.

The seminar continued with the presentation of the Sustainable Development Goals, approved last September by the General Assembly of the United Nations as part of the new 2015-2030 Agenda for Development, that represent the new commitment involving all countries in the challenges of social, environmental and economic sustainability.

During both seminars, the results of the “DEAR Student” project, carried out by FELCOS Umbria and the secondary schools involved, has been shared with the attendees.

The project, funded by the European Union, aims to increase the younger generation's awareness on issues related to sustainable human development, through different awareness-raising and training activities involving several secondary and primary schools in the territories involved (Bulgaria, Croatia, Italy, Portugal, Romania and Spain).

The project is composed by three main points:

• cooperation between local authorities and non-state actors for the creation of a local agenda on Development Education and Awareness Raising;

• involvement of the territory’s secondary schools in the introduction of Sustainable Human Development as an interdisciplinary topic in the learning program

• education for Development with primary schools and the educational community
